Original Custom Concepts, Building & Furniture Design

Our head designer Josh is part of the fifth generation of the Bowden family. The Bowdens have a long history in the building industry and are known for pushing the limits of design. Founded in 1883, they have one of the longest running family timber and building businesses in Australia. This began with Thomas Bowden, a boat builder who originated in Cornwall before migrating to Australia, who established Bowden Timber Mills. Richard Bowden took over from his father, and in turn passed the business on to his son Thomas Bowden. Over the years the company has manufactured everything from rowing boats and speedboats to new houses, commercial buildings, and one of the largest timber mills in South Australia. Peter Bowden, who took over from Thomas, runs Bowden Concept Design, the recently renamed building side of the company, and is still in business with Josh to this day.

HOW IT WORKS

Our aim is to help you get everything you want from your new project with as little stress as possible. First, we offer a free consultation to discuss exactly what it is you are looking for. We will explain what we do and how we do it, and will provide our booklet explaining everything you need to know including pricing.

Next, we complete a floor plan and a rough sketch based on our first meeting. We then communicate until we are both happy with the design and the direction in which we’re heading. Once this step is complete our team will construct a 3D CAD perspective drawing of the concept so that you can accurately visualise what is being brought to life. After our private certifier looks this over it is ready for council approval.

The next step is the technical drawings, engineering, and certification, all of which are provided in-house. Once final council approval is completed we can assist you with tendering, or you can be introduced to our sister company manager Peter who can assist you with the build through Bowden Concept Design.

Josh is a skilled builder and designer with over 20 years of experience in the timber and building industry. He has the vision and creativity to conceive amazing and innovative designs, as well as the practical skills to ensure that these designs come together with exceptional results. Throughout the years Josh has honed his skills in carpentry, joinery, and cabinetmaking, and is also a skilled bespoke furniture maker.
